Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) is likely to get around 250 crore for further development, announced to health minister Dr C Vijayabaskar.He said the funds will be granted by the Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA), who has chosen to fund the development of three medical colleges. The state government has also announced a grant of 1 crore for renovation of the college auditorium.Speaking on the occasion of the college's golden jubilee celebrations on Friday, which was marked by a series of cultural programs including song and dance performances, the minister said Coimbatore should be proud to have a college like CMC in its city.
It was way back in 1966 that the medical college was started in the existing off-white coloured building signified by its many arches.
The college had started golden jubilee celebrations from way back in January itself with an awareness walk.
The celebration, which included a host of events like medical exhibitions, seminars and educational programmes would continue till September.

COIMBATORE: A 53-year-old man died on Sunday after falling from parachute while he was parasailing over the Codissia ground in Coimbatore.
The deceased has been identified as Malleswara Rao of KTVR Residency near Duraisamy Layout in Peelamedu.
Indian Aero Sports and Science Club and Coimbatore Government Medical College conducted a parasailing event at Codissia on Sunday morning as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the medical college.
The club collected Rs 500 from each person who wanted to parasail for 20 minutes.
Around 11.30am, Malleswara Rao started to parasail.
