It was only a matter of time before someone asked Winona Ryder to spill out her thoughts about Amber Heard accusing Johnny Depp of abuse.
Winona and Johnny (seen above joining her at a premiere after working a shift at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland) were together from 1989 to 1993. You know with certain people you hear something and go, “I can see that.” But this isn’t that.
Wino Forever told Time that she’s never known him to be violent, but made it clear that she can only speak from her own experiences with him. I’m just saying, it’s difficult and upsetting for me to wrap my head around it. But, again, I feel like even saying that, I’m going to get death threats or something. But it’s weird because imagine if someone you dated when you were—I was 17 when I met him—was accused of that. I have never seen him be violent toward a person before. So anyway this is the first time I’ve said anything so I don’t know. It’s such a serious, horrible thing to be accused of.
She said several times that he was always sweet around her and also let it be perfectly known that she’s not calling Amber Heard a liar. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves. Look, it was a long time ago, but we were together for four years, and it was a big relationship for me. I’m not on social media, so maybe I will be spared. I don’t know what your love history is, but imagine someone you were in a relationship with was accused of this. It’s almost as if your brother or someone you just never—so, you know, there’s a part of me that is thinking, ‘Is it even appropriate for me to say anything?
Winona slipped on a pair of cotton white gloves and handled the question very, very delicately: Look, I mean, obviously I can only speak from my own experience. I can only speak from my own experience, which was wildly different than what is being said. It’s hard because I feel like—that’s my experience. At this point, it sounds like Winona got a major case of the nerves, because she went into Rambles Ville and continued to nail in the points that she’s never heard of him being violent and that she’s not brushing off Amber’s allegations as lies: I don’t know how you feel about it, but it’s like anybody who says anything about it is a victim-blamer. ’ But because of the seriousness of it, it’s been brought into a thing where it’s trickier for me to say, ‘None of my business.’ But that’s all I have to offer is my own experience, which was a very, very long time ago.
It’s very tricky because if it were any other type of scandal, like cheating, you could be like, ‘None of my business. Not appropriate for me.’ But I think because what is being said is so horrific and such a global issue for millions of women, obviously, that I understand why people feel it is their business. I bet that after this interview, Winona checked into a spa for exhaustion and dehydration, because it sounds like answering that question wore her out.
And now that we’ve heard from Winona, it’s Kate Moss‘ turn.Johnny was arrested for reportedly trashing a hotel room during a fight with Kate, so I’m sure she’s been asked. And since I’m pretty sure Kate Moss has spoken a total of 14 words in her whole life, she probably answered the Kate Moss way by flipping the reporter off.In 1993, Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp ended their engagement after a four-year relationship.Twenty-three years later, the actress is coming to Depp's defense amid allegations that he physically abused estranged wife Amber Heard throughout their relationship. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves.” As Ryder said herself, she can only speak from her "own experience" -- the experience of a relationship with a man that has been over for more than two decades and has absolutely no bearing on what Heard said happened to her."I can only speak from my own experience, which was wildly different than what is being said,” Ryder told Time magazine in an interview for her new Netflix show. Every time a woman defends Depp based on her past experience with him -- some dating as far back as 30 years -- and every time the media focuses on that woman's experience, it becomes all too easy to ignore Heard's own claims and experiences.
